MEDFORD, Mass. --- The Colby College baseball team got a grand slam home run from Kyle McKay, but Tufts University had three big innings to earn a 14-5 victory over the Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference East Division play Friday.
Tufts moved to 15-12 overall and 5-5 in the NESCAC East, while Colby fell to 15-12 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
The Jumbos got five runs in the second inning, four in the fifth, and four more in the sixth. Tufts also had a lone run in the third inning.
McKay hit his home run with Ken Kaufman, John LaMantia, and Ryan Conlon aboard in the top of the sixth inning. John Lerner had a two-out triple and scored on a single by Kaufman for the Mules' other run in the seventh inning.
Kaufman had two hits, one run, and an RBI for Colby. LaMantia added a pair of hits and one run, while Conlon had the run and one hit.
Colby and Tufts play a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday in Medford.
