WATERVILLE, Maine --- Ryan Conlon (Ridgefield, Conn.) had three hits, drove in four runs, and scored twice as the Colby College baseball team scored nine runs in the first three innings on the way to a 14-0 win over University of Maine at Presque Isle in non-conference play Thursday.
The Mules move to 18-13 this season heading into Friday's season-ending home game with Bowdoin College at 3:30 p.m.
Colby split two games with UMPI (5-18) earlier this season and Shane Dupuis (Trenton, Nova Scotia) was the winner that day for the Owls. The Mules, though, got to Dupuis early this time with a lone run in the first inning on a Nick Spillane (Darien, Conn.) RBI single and then scored six times in the second inning. Conlon had a two-run double, Richard Newton (Arlington, Mass.) had a two-run single, and Ken Kaufman (Lexington, Mass.) and Colin Riggs (Duxbury, Mass.) both had RBI singles.
The Mules got a leadoff triple from Dom Morrill (South Thomaston, Maine) in the third inning and an RBI single from John LaMantia (Gates Mills, Ohio) to bring in another score. LaMantia came in later on a wild pitch.
Conlon hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning and Chris Murdock (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y) had an RBI single to close out the scoring. Kaufman went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs, while Newton , Morrill, Spencer Jacobson (Newton, Mass.), and Riggs (Duxbury, Mass.) all had two hits.
Justin Clark (Brunswick, Maine) worked six innings and allowed just two hits while striking out five and walking one for Colby.
Tyler Delaney (Truro, Nova Scotia) and A.J. Pennartz (Birch Harbor, Maine) had the two hits for the Owls.
