WATERVILLE, Maine --- Mark Nelson pitched a complete game shutout in the nightcap over University of Maine at Presque Isle and Mark Collins allowed just one run in the first game as the Colby College baseball team won 16-1 and 5-0 over the Owls in non-conference play at Coombs Field.
Robb Arndt and Alec Finigan each had home runs for Colby (13-20) in the first game. Arndt got on base all three times he was up and scored three runs. Finigan took over for Arndt in the fifth inning and had a solo homer and a single.
Jake Kramer had two hits, scored twice, and had three RBI for the Mules in the opener. Richard Newton added a double and a triple, scored once, and drove in three runs. Nikolas Atsalis had three hits, Mike Mastrocola had two hits and two runs, John Schroeder had two hits and scored twice, and Taro Gold scored three runs while reaching base all three times.
In the second game, Mastrocola went 1-for-2 with a walk while scoring once and delivering a key two-run single in the fifth inning. Kramer also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, Cummings had two hits and scored one run, Kevin Galvin tripled and scored, and Arndt walked three times.
