WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College first-year forward Alison Cappelloni (Lincoln-Sudbury/Sudbury, Mass.) earned the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Rookie of the Week honor for the second time this season.
Cappelloni earned the award for the week ending February 11 and also had been honored for the week ending January 14. Cappelloni shared the award this week with University of New England’s Katie Diggins.
Cappelloni averaged 16 points, six rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots for the Mules in three games last week. She started the week with 19 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots in a 65-51 win over St. Joseph’s College last Monday. Cappelloni had a collegiate-high 21 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in an 87-74 setback to Bates on Friday. She closed the week with eight points, three assists and three blocks in a 71-62 loss to Tufts that ended Colby’s season.
In the latest New England Small College Athletic Conference statistics, Cappelloni ranks third in blocked shots per game (1.70, 39 total), tied for fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (.333), tied for 14th in rebounding (6.3) and is 15th in scoring (12.0). Cappelloni, who has a .818 free throw percentage (45-for-55), is not ranked among the league leaders because she is one made free throw shy of the minimum (2.0 per game). Her .818 percentage would place her third in the free throw shooting category.
Cappelloni is second in blocked shots, sixth in 3-point field goal percentage, tied for 11th in rebounding and is 15th in scoring among the MWBCA statistical leaders.
In the last 14 games for Colby (6-17), Cappelloni averaged 13.7 points per game.
