WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College’s Alison Cappelloni (Sudbury, Mass.) was named the Co-Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Player of the Week and earned honor roll honors for the second straight week from the New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA) on Tuesday.
Cappelloni averaged 18.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 4.3 blocked shots. She had 27 points, 13 rebounds, seven blocked shots, three assists, and two steals as the Mules took a 71-61 win at Connecticut College on Friday. Cappelloni also had 15 points, eight rebounds, four blocks, and three steals in a 66-55 loss at Wesleyan University. She started the week with 13 points, nine rebounds, two blocks, and two assists in an easy 70-39 win at home against Thomas.
Cappelloni tied a Colby game record with seven blocked shots in the win over the Camels. She had already broke the career 3-point field goal record earlier this season and currently has 120.
In the latest New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) statistics, Cappelloni ranks 12th in scoring (11.8) and 10th in blocked shots (1.0). She leads the Mules in scoring, made 3-point field goals (38), and is third in rebounding (6.0).
Cappelloni, a junior forward, has 851 points and 442 rebounds heading into Tuesday’s road game at University of Maine at Farmington. Colby had a 13-10 record and will play Amherst College in a NESCAC quarterfinal game this Saturday.
