WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College sophomore forward Alison Cappelloni (Sudbury, Mass.), who had two collegiate-high scoring performances in one week, was honored as the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association Co-Player of the Week for the week ending February 17.
Cappelloni averaged 20.3 points and about five rebounds per game in three games. She started the week with a collegiate-high 28 points, including five 3-point shots, and eight rebounds in a 77-71 overtime win against Thomas College. Cappelloni then beat that scoring mark with 29 points on 12-for-20 shooting in a 77-64 loss at Bates College. She added four points after picking up early foul problems in a loss at Tufts University.
Cappelloni ranks ninth in the New England Small College Athletic Conference in scoring (13.3), ninth in blocked shots (24 total), and 13th in rebounding (6.6). She missed one game and played hurt with a hip problem in the early portion of the season. Cappelloni is averaging 16 points per game in NESCAC games.
Cappelloni also went over 500 career points during the week and now has 547 points, 290 rebounds, and 63 blocked shots.
After a game at Maine-Presque Isle on Tuesday, Colby will be the eighth seed and play at top-seeded Amherst College in a NESCAC quarterfinal game Saturday at 2 p.m.
