GRAY, Maine --- Mandy Ivey had the best time of the day for the Colby College women's cross country team as the Mules opened the season with a 31-29 victory over Bates College in the Class Wave Relay Carnival at Pineland Farms on Saturday. Ivey had a time of 13 minutes, 53 seconds over the 2.33-mile course and was the only woman under 14 minutes. Colby's Katrina Gravel had the third-best time with her 14:19 clocking and was third among juniors. Cassi Knight's time of 14:28 was the fourth top time of the day and ranked fourth among juniors. For the seniors, Colby's Hannah Taska had the top time at 14:35 and Jen MacDowell was second with a 14:45. Emma Linhard's time of 14:42 was first among the sophomore runners and Nora McCall took second in 14:49. Meanwhile, Colby's Colleen Kenney (16:11) was fourth and Robyn St. Laurent (16:26) took fifth among first-year runners. The races were run by class year and points were awarded by finish. Colby's sophomores, juniors, and seniors outscored Bates by a 28-17 margin, but the Bobcats' first-year runners had a 12-3 advantage. Colby 31, Bates 29 Senior women (Colby finishers): 1.
