GAINESVILLE, Ga. --- The Colby College women's varsity eight opened the spring rowing season with a victory in the collegiate final at the Lanier Sprints on Saturday in Georgia.

The Mules beat boats from LSU, Auburn, Emory and Savannah Art & Design in the race. No times were available from the meet.

The Colby varsity men's eight placed second to Georgia Tech in the collegiate final. The Mules did beat some other Georgia Tech boats and a team from Clemson.

The novice women's eight and the men's varsity four each advanced to finals, but the Colby teams had to withdraw to catch transportation back home to Maine. The novice women won their heat and the men placed second in their heat.

Both varsity eight boats head to Worcester next Saturday for racing.
