GREENE, Maine --- The Colby College men's varsity 8 crew finished a close second in Presidents Cup racing against Bates College and Bowdoin College on Sunday on the Androscoggin River.
The Colby women's varsity 8 crew only went up against Bates and took second place. The final point standings for the Presidents Cup were not available Sunday night.
On the 2,000-meter course, the Bates men's varsity 8 won the event with a time of 6:41.1 and was followed by the Mules (6:45.8) and Bowdoin (6:56.6). Meanwhile the Colby women had a 7:52.7 clocking and finished behind the Bobcats (7:26.3).
The Bates men also won the men's second varsity 8 race in 6:58.1 ahead of two Colby boats (6:45.8, 6:56.6). The Bates women finished with a 7:58.0 to Colby's 8:22.1 in women's second varsity 8 racing.
Bowdoin won the men's varsity 4 race in 7:17.9 and was followed by Bates (7:24.8), Colby (7:32.4), and Bowdoin 'B' (7:35.9). Women's varsity 4 had the closest racing of the day with Bowdoin winning in 8:22.5, Bates just behind slightly in second with a 8:22.9, and Colby in third with an 8:31.8.
The Colby men's novice 4 boat took second place in 7:39.5 behind Bates (7:32.4), while the Colby women were third with a 9:19.1 in trailing Bates (8:35.4) and Bowdoin (8:57.9). The Mule women did beat a second boat for Bates.
In racing Saturday at Lake Quinsigamond, the Colby varsity 8 women took fourth place in 7:54.8 ahead of Connecticut College (8:08.9) and behind winner Ithaca (7:20.9), MIT (7:24.3), and Holy Cross (7:26.8).
The Colby men's varsity 8 boat raced approximately 1,800 meters with Ithaca after the Mules were excluded from the original race. Colby finished about 15 seconds ahead of Ithaca. Williams was first in the race in 6:19.5.
In men's second varsity 8 racing, Colby took third place in 6:38.7 and finished ahead of Ithaca (6:40) and behind winner Williams (6:08) and Wesleyan (6:30.9). The Colby women took fifth place out of five boats in 8:26.2.
Colby's men's novice 4 was fourth out of four boats with a 7:12.2 to finish behind Ithaca (6:34.4), Williams (6:44.7), and Wesleyan (7:00.1).
