Men's crew eighth in team point standings

WORCESTER, Mass. --- The Colby College men's varsity 8 crew finished in eighth place in the team point standings, while the women's crew continued to make strides at the 2011 National Invitational Collegiate Regatta on Sunday.

The Colby men finished in third place in the first heat of varsity 8 racing.  The Mules had a time of 5:56.352 to finish behind Williams (5:52.411) and Marist (5:53.411) and in front of Bates (5:58.616), University of Massachusetts (6:02.128), Coast Guard (6:09.109), and St. Lawrence (6:12.658).

The top two teams in the each of the three heats competed in the Grand Final (places 1-6) and places three and four were in the Petite Final (places 7-12). The Mules finished second in the Petite Final with a time of 6:14.898, losing to Bates (6:12.508) and beating University of New Hampshire (6:15.974), University of Rhode Island (6:18.389), WPI (6:18.788), and RIT (6:28.510).

The men's second varsity 8 boat took fourth place in the Petite Final with a clocking of 6:30.073. The Mules were less than one second out of second place. Meanwhile, the men's  third varsity 8 boat was sixth in the Grand Final with a 7:01.382.

In women's varsity 8 racing, Colby finished sixth out of seven boats in the first heat with a time of 7:01.759 and then raced in the third final event and had a time of 7:32.690 in taking sixth out of six.

The second varsity 8 boat was sixth out of six boats with a time of 7:36.099 in their heat.
