CLEVELAND, Ohio --- Katrina Gravel (Peabody, Mass.) earned All-American honors by placing 35th and teammate Cassi Knight (Carlisle, Mass.) placed 38th for Colby College at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Highland Park Golf Course near the campus of Baldwin-Wallace College.
Gravel was the final All-American (top 35 are honored) with a time of 22 minutes, 51.6 seconds over the 6-kilometer soggy and muddy course. Gravel placed ninth at the NCAA New England Region Qualifier last Saturday, was 10th at the New England Small College Athletic Conference meet, and won the Maine State Championship title.
Gravel, who finished 49th at last year's national meet, was named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association New England All-Region Team along with Knight on Tuesday.
Knight, who had a time of 22:55.0, finished in 36th place at nationals last year and had a fine effort over the past few weeks after missing most of the season with an injury. She earned All-NESCAC honors with Gravel after placing 13th at the conference meet and then was 13th at the New England Region Qualifier.
Gravel, who competed against 279 finishers Saturday, is the 15th Colby runner to earn All-American honors under 25th-year head coach Deb Aitken.
