WATERVILLE, Maine --- For the second time in five weeks, Colby College co-captain Tom Daley (Bridgton Academy/North Bridgton, Maine) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week.
Daley had an interception, fumble recovery, and recorded six tackles in Colby’s 16-13 victory over Hamilton College on Saturday. Daley’s interception with 7:36 left in the game halted Hamilton’s drive on Colby’s 18-yard line, while his fumble recovery came on the last play of the game at the Colby 20.
Daley, a senior defensive back, is tied for the team lead in total tackles with 31 and leads the Mules in fumble recoveries (4) and pass break-ups (4). Daley also returns kicks for the Mules and has a 21.6-yard kickoff return average and a 6.8-yard punt return mark.
In the latest NESCAC statistics, Colby ranks in a tie for third in the league in turnover margin at plus-three. Daley’s four fumble recoveries and one interception account for five of the Mules’ 13 caused turnovers.
Colby (3-2) will play at Bates College at 1 p.m. Saturday in the first game of the Colby-Bates-Bowdoin (CBB) rivalry.
