USM field hockey holds off Colby, 1-0

GORHAM, Maine --- Despite a 14-8 shot advantage and a 10-1 margin in penalty corners, the Colby College field hockey team fell 1-0 to University of Southern Maine in non-conference play Thursday.

Sara Winterbottom got the only goal of the game for Southern Maine (10-4) off an assist from Alyson Lumino. Winterbottom redirected a shot by Lumino past Colby goaltender Jamie Enos, who stopped five shots.

Colby (2-8) will play host to Amherst College at 11 a.m. Saturday on Bill Alfond Field.
