AMHERST, Mass. --- Meryl Poulin scored the lone goal of the day for the Colby College field hockey team, but it was not enough as Amherst College took a 2-0 halftime lead on the way to a 3-1 victory in NESCAC play Saturday.

Molly Malloy scored two goals for Amherst (6-4, 3-3 NESCAC). Chrissy Cantore also tallied and Malloy had the assist for the opening goal at 19:31. Malloy then scored with just 25 seconds to halftime to put the Jeffs up by two goals at the break.

Five minutes into the second half, Haley Douds flipped the ball over a Colby defender and toward the goal, and Malloy was there to redirect the ball in midair.

The Mules (4-5, 1-4) responded quickly when Poulin collected a rebound and beat Amherst goalie Emily Vitale at 47:17.

Vitale finished the day with six saves and Colby goalie Liz Fontaine made eight stops.
