WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College senior midfielder MaryClaire McGovern (Stowe, Vt.) picked a good time to score her first collegiate goal as the Mules took a 1-0 victory over Amherst College in New England Small College Athletic Conference field hockey on Saturday at Bill Alfond Field.
McGovern scored unassisted with 21:10 left in the first half on a play that started off a penalty corner. The goal helped the Mules improve to 3-8 overall and 1-6 in the conference. Colby still is in the running for a NESCAC playoff bid with two league contests remaining.
Jamie Enos (South Hamilton, Mass.) made eight saves for Colby, while Kathleen Boucher (Washington, D.C.) was credited with 11 stops for Amherst (5-5, 2-4 NESCAC).
