Field hockey falls to sixth-ranked Bowdoin

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College's Meryl Poulin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) scored her seventh goal of the season, but Elizabeth Clegg (Hudson, Ohio) and Katie Herter (Topsfield, Mass.) both had two goals in lifting sixth-ranked Bowdoin College to a 5-1 win over the Mules in NESCAC field hockey Wednesday night at Bill Alfond Field.

Clegg scored two goals in the first 6:32 of the game and later added an assist for Bowdoin (10-0 overall, 6-0, NESCAC). Herter also had two goals and one assist. Kassey Matoin (Springvale, Maine) also tallied for the Polar Bears.

After Bowdoin took a 4-0 lead at intermission, Herter took a centering pass from Clegg and tallied just 26 seconds into the second half in putting the Polar Bears up 5-0.  Poulin scored off a penalty corner with about 20 minutes to play off assists from Sarah Falkof (Wilmette, Ill.) and Caitlyn Lancaster (Cornville, Maine).

Emily Neilson (Chatham, Pa.) played the first half and did not make a save, while Kayla Lessard (Enfield, Conn.) stopped three shots in the second half. Liz Fontaine (Wilbraham, Mass.) made 12 stops for Colby.
