Poulin, Fontaine lead field hockey to win

BIDDEFORD, Maine --- Meryl Poulin scored her 20th career goal and Liz Fontaine earned the shutout for Colby College in a 1-0 non-conference field hockey victory over University of New England on Wednesday.

Poulin has played in 50 games for the Mules and has 20 goals and 16 assists from her center midfield position. She leads Colby in scoring this year with eight goals and three assists. Poulin, a two-time All-NESCAC selection, has four game-winning goals this season.

Poulin scored 11 minutes into the second half when she stuffed in a rebound. Her eighth goal of the season tied a record for her after she had eight scores in the 2008 season.

Fontaine had eight saves in net for Colby, while Ayla Nelson stopped seven shots for UNE (9-5).

Colby plays host to Connecticut College on Saturday at 11 a.m.
