Bowdoin field hockey tops Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College managed to score just the fifth goal of the season on Bowdoin College, but the Polar Bears received four goals and one assist from Lindsay McNamara in an 8-1 field hockey win at Bill Alfond Field on Saturday.

McNamara (Milton, Mass.) reached 25 goals on the season after scoring four times and dishing one assist for second-ranked Bowdoin.

Bowdoin, the defending national champs, moves to 12-1 overall and 7-1 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Colby drops to 5-8 overall and 2-6 in the league.

McNamara scored goals in the first two minutes of each half to get Bowdoin off to quick starts. The Polar Bears led 6-0 at halftime on three goals by McNamara and one apiece from Madeleine McQueeney (Buffalo, N.Y.), Shavonne Lord (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and Julia King (Yarmouth, Maine).

McNamara scored 47 seconds into the second half to put the Polar Bears up 7-0.

The Mules did score the fifth goal of the season allowed by Bowdoin when Mary Clare Snediker (New Canaan, Conn.) recorded her 28th career goal off an assist from Meryl Poulin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine).

Lord, who finished with a pair of goals, closed out the scoring for the Polar Bears with 18:41 left in the game. King added a goal and two assists, while Kara Kelley (Dedham, Mass.) had two assists.
