WATERVILLE, Maine --- Frazer Humes (Greenwood Village, Colo.) scored on a penalty corner about eight minutes into the second half and the Colby College field hockey team kept Wesleyan University off the scoreboard the rest of the way in a 2-1 victory in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday at Bill Alfond Field.
Colby sophomore Meryl Poulin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) assisted on the goal by Humes, a captain and senior defender.
Colby (4-4, 1-3 NESCAC) and Wesleyan (1-7, 0-5) traded goals in the opening half. The Mules scored 8:31 into the opening half when Amy Campbell (North Andover, Mass.) got her fourth goal of the season. The Cardinals tied it with 2:56 left to halftime when Allie Lynch (Greenwich, Conn.) scored off a penalty corner from assists by Emily Wenzel (Garden City, N.Y.) and Jamie Thabault (Colchester, Vt.).
Liz Fontaine (Wilbraham, Mass.) had seven saves for Colby, while Breen McDonald (Shaker Heights, Ohio) made six stops for the Cardinals.
