MEDFORD, Mass. --- The Colby College field hockey team played unbeaten Tufts University tough for a half for the second time this season, but the Jumbos pulled away for a 5-1 victory in a New England Small College Athletic Conference quarterfinal game Sunday. The eighth-seeded Mules (5-10) led nationally fourth-ranked Tufts (15-0) by a 1-0 score after Mary Clare Snediker scored off an assist from Meryl Poulin at the 11:23 mark of the first half. Snediker, a three-time All-NESCAC selection, finished her career at Colby with 29 goals. Tufts did battle back for a 2-1 halftime lead on goals by Tamara Brown and Michelle Kelly. The Mules only trailed 1-0 at intermission in the regular season game between the teams and that goal came on a penalty stroke. Liz Fontaine stopped eight shots in the cage for Colby.
