Saccone leads field hockey past NEC

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College senior captain Meghan Saccone (Andover, Mass.) had a goal, an assist, and did the job helping to lead the defense to a shutout in a 2-0 victory over New England College in non-conference field hockey play Sunday at Bill Alfond Field.

With the field wet because of a consistent rainfall, Colby (4-2) got on the scoreboard quickly when Ashley Wagner (Sudbury, Mass.) tallied just 30 seconds into the game off a pass from Saccone.

The Mules made it 2-0 off a penalty corner when Saccone scored at 17:45 off an assist from Sarah Falkof (Wilmette, Ill.).

Liz Fontaine (Wilbraham, Mass.) had four stops for the shutout, while Mary Roux (Auburn, Mass.) stopped seven shots for NEC (5-3).

Colby will play at Middlebury this Saturday at 11 a.m.
