WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College struck first less than five minutes into the game, but Ileana Casellas-Katz (Denmark, Maine) scored two goals as Tufts University opened the season with a 3-1 win against the Mules in field hockey Saturday at Bill Alfond Field.
Colby (0-1, 0-1 NESCAC) did get off to a quick start when Mary Clare Snediker (New Canaan, Conn.) tallied just 4:24 into the contest. Tufts (1-0, 1-0) scored all three of its goals on penalty corners. Casellas-Katz made it a 1-1 halftime tie when she took a pass from Michelle Kelly (Downingtown, Pa.) and scored about seven minutes after Snediker’s goal. Casellas-Katz got the game-winning goal from Corey Green (Danbury, Conn.) just 3:35 into the second half. Jess Perkins (Barrington, R.I.) got her first collegiate goal with 15:20 remaining for the Jumbos. Jamie Enos (South Hamilton, Mass.) kept Colby in the game with 12 stops.
