Thompson third at NESCAC golf meet for Mules

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Gus Thompson finished with a two-day total of 149 after carding a 76 on Sunday to place third overall at the New England Small College Athletic Conference men's golf championships qualifier at The Skenandoa Club near Hamilton College.

Thompson had a 73 on Saturday and followed that up with another solid round to help the Mules tie Bates College for ninth place with a score of 654.

Trinity College's Josh Grossman had an even-par 72 on Sunday to finish with a total score of 146 to earn medalist honors. Hamilton's Brad Roche had a 75 on Sunday and was second with a score of 148.

Hans Noering tied for 40th place for Colby with an 81 on Sunday and a total score of 166. John Wagner was consistent with an 84 for the second straight day to finish at 168. Nick Spillane also had an 84 on the second day and was at 171. Sam Rouleau was four strokes better than the previous day with an 86 for the Mules on Sunday.

Trinity, Middlebury, Williams, and Hamilton advance to the four-team NESCAC Golf Championship in April.
