WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College senior Hannah Holbrook (Acton-Boxborough/Acton, Mass.) was one of only six New England Small College Athletic Conference players to make the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1 Women's Soccer Team on Friday.
Holbrook, who majors in psychology and has a minor in education, was named to the third team. Division II and III schools in New York and New England make up District 1.
Holbrook was a captain of this year's team after being named team most valuable player after her junior season. She was part of a stingy defense that helped the Mules make the NESCAC playoffs the past two seasons. Holbrook's defense helped the Mules post seven shutouts in 2009, one away from tying the school record. She finished her soccer career with one goal and two assists for four points.
Holbrook is a two-time NESCAC Fall All-Academic selection and has been active on and away from the Colby campus. She was an assistant teacher for a kindergarten class in Senegal during spring 2009 and was an assistant teacher at a local elementary school in spring 2008 while at Colby. Holbrook has been a Colby Cares About Kids mentor since 2006, is a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC), and is training to be a group facilitator at the Waterville hospice.
In the classroom, she is a Psi Chi National Honor Society member in psychology for 2009 and is doing psychology research experimentation on sensation and perception studies with a professor at Colby.
