WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College men's soccer player Daniel Kiernan (Brookline, Mass.) did the job offensively and defensively to earn the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor for the week ending October 22.
Kiernan, a defender, helped the Mules to shutout victories over Connecticut College in a key NESCAC game and a 2-0 non-conference win against University of Maine at Farmington.
Kiernan's direct kick goal proved to be the game winner as Colby won 2-0 over Connecticut College. Earlier in the week, Kiernan had an assist on a free kick on the opening goal in a 2-0 victory over UMF.
Kiernan started his career at Colby on the offensive end of the field, leading the team in scoring after his sophomore season with four goals and five assists for 13 points. He added three goals and four assists during his first year with the Mules.
With a shortage of defenders, Kiernan unselfishly moved back to defense for his junior year and earned All-New England and All-NESCAC second team honors. Kiernan reached 30 points for his career with nine goals and 12 assists.
The Mules (5-5-2) will play local rival Thomas College in a non-conference game Tuesday at 3 p.m.
