HARTFORD, Conn. --- Colby College kept Trinity College off the scoreboard for the entire first half, but the Bantams got going in the second half on the way to a 9-4 win in New England Small College Athletic Conference men's lacrosse Saturday.
The Mules (1-3, 0-2 NESCAC) had a 14-13 advantage in shots in the first two quarters. However, neither team was able to score a goal in 30 minutes of play. Trinity (3-1, 1-0) had a 5-3 scoring margin in the third quarter and added four more goals in the final 15 minutes.
Colby goalie Alex Farmer made 12 saves and kept his team in the game heading into the final quarter.
Caddy Brooks scored with 9:04 left in the fourth quarter to make it 6-4, but the Bantams tallied just 39 seconds later and added two more goals in the final two minutes of the game with Colby up pressing to get back in the contest.
Whit McCarthy had two goals, while Brooks had one goal and one assist for Colby. Drew Piekarski also tallied for the Mules.
Colby will play at 18th-ranked Roanoke College at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Virginia. The time start was recently changed from the original 7 p.m. start.
