Lowe in fifth place in decathlon after first day

MEDFORD, Mass. --- Colby College's David Lowe stands in fifth place after the first day of the decathlon competition at the New England Division III Men's Track and Field Championships on Thursday.

Lowe has 3,101 points heading into the final five events of the competition Friday. Issac Nicholson of Williams College is first with 3,344 points, but Lowe is just 62 points out of third place.

Lowe started off the day with a 11.77 in the 100-meter dash, had a leap of 18-10.5 in the long jump, added a 33-02 in the shot put, leaped 5-8.75 in the high jump, and clocked a 50.46 in the 400 meters. His time in the 400 was second out of the 14 competitors in the event.
