Men's basketball loses tight game with Williams

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Adam Choice had a game-high 24 points for the Colby College men's basketball team, but Williams College was strong from the foul line in a 67-61 victory over the Mules on Saturday in New England Small College Athletic Conference play.

Joe Geoghegan (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and Matt Weisbrot (Gladwyne, Pa.) combined to go 21-for-21 from the foul line for Williams.

Geohegan finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Ephs (14-2, 1-1 NESCAC). Weisbrot added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Kevin Snyder (Littleton, Colo.) had 11 points.

Colby received the 24 points and three assists from Choice (Newport, R.I.). Michael Russell (Wellesley, Mass.) had 12 points and eight boards, while Mark Gaudet (Bingham, Maine) finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Williams opened the game strong and led 14-2, but the Mules chipped away at the lead and got 10 points apiece from Russell and Gaudet to take a 36-35 lead at the break.

Colby (9-7, 0-2 NESCAC) took a 56-52 lead on a 3-point play by Justin Sherman (Piedmont, Calif.) with 5:57 remaining, but Williams went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for good at 59-56 with 2:08 left. Colby cut the lead to 59-58  with two minutes to go only to see the Ephs go 8-for-8 from the foul line in the final 1:39 of play.

Williams was 27-for-30 from the free throw line, while Colby shot 17-for-20.
