Choice, Russell too much for Trinity

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Mike Russell (Wellesley, Mass.) had his 10th double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds and teammate Adam Choice (Newport, R.I.) finished with a game-high 27 points and nine rebounds to move into 10th place on the Colby College men's basketball career scoring list as the Mules scored 40 points in the second half on the way to a 67-54 win over Trinity College.

The Mules improve to 14-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Trinity falls to 9-9 overall and 2-2 in league play. Colby plays host to Amherst College, a loser to Bowdoin College on Friday night, at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Choice had 18 of his points in the second half and Russell, who had just one point at halftime, scored 12 points. The two combined for 30 of the Mules' 40 points in the final 20 minutes. Choice shot 11-for-15 from the foul line and added four assists, while Russell had 10 defensive boards and had three assists.

Choice now has 1,370 points and 593 rebounds in his career and passed Kevin Whitmore (1,357 from 1988-91) and Ken Allen (1,366 from 1997-2000).

Justin Sherman (Piedmont, Calif.) added 11 points and three assists for the Mules, while Christian Van Loenen (Falmouth, Maine) finished with nine points and four rebounds.

Ian Fels (Miami, Fla.) had 13 of his team-high 18 points in the opening half for Trinity as the Bantams and the Mules played to a 27-27 tie at intermission. Luke MacDougall (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) added 10 points and seven rebounds, while Chris Applegate (High Point, N.C.) had 13 boards and seven points.
