LEWISTON, Maine --- Eric Beaulieu sparked a second-half comeback by the Colby College men's basketball team as the Mules capped off a big week with a 69-62 victory at Bates College in non-conference play Saturday.

Colby moves to 7-6 overall, while Bates falls to 8-5. The Bobcats and Husson have been the top two ranked teams in the Maine coaches poll for most of the season --- but Colby beat both teams this week.

Beaulieu was 6-for-8 from the field and also had two assists and one blocked shot. With leading scorer Mike Russell scoring just seven points but adding a team-high 11 rebounds, Colby received great balance from the rest of the team. Christian Van Loenen had 12 points and a game-high six assists, Kyle Donovan scored 11 points and blocked three shots, and Uzoma Orchingwa came off the bench with 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting and dished three assists. Ben Foreman and Gordon Fischer both had six points for Colby.

Bates (8-5), always a tough team on its home court, darted out to a 27-16 lead in the first half. The Mules, though, received seven straight points from Donovan to cut the margin to 29-25 and then trailed 31-27 at intermission.

Bates managed to hold on to the lead for the first five minutes of the second half, but Van Loenen put Colby up 43-41 with 13:31 left in the game. With the Mules leading 50-47, Colby went on an 11-0 scoring run capped off by a 3-point shot by Fischer. The Bobcats never recovered and the Mules held on for the victory.

Brian Ellis paced Bates with 19 points and was the lone Bobcat in double figures. Alex Gallant did have nine points and 11 rebounds.
