Men's basketball falls to Division I team

DAVIDSON, N.C. --- The Colby College men's basketball team held NCAA Division I Davidson College to just 37 points at halftime before the Wildcats pulled away in the second half for a 99-69 victory on Tuesday night before 2,237 fans at John Belk Arena.

Davidson (4-2) made the NCAA Division I Tournament last year and gave Ohio State a scare in the opening round before losing. The Wildcats had just played and lost at the University of Missouri on Sunday and will play at Duke University this Saturday.

The Mules held Davidson to just 28 percent shooting in the first half and only trailed 37-23 at the break. Davidson used a 35-21 advantage on the boards to build up the lead. The Wildcats shot 34 3-point attempts in the first half and finished the game at 19-for-52 from behind the arc.

Stephen Curry led the Wildcats with 29 points. Jason Richards had 20 points and 16 assists, while Boris Meno added eight points and 18 rebounds for the winners.

Drew Cohen, Nick Farrell and Artie Cutrone all had 13 points for Colby (1-2). Cohen finished with seven rebounds and two blocked shots, while Farrell added five boards and three assists. Jon Bandi shot 4-for-5 from the field and had 10 points in 15 minutes. Adam Choice had eight points and five rebounds and teammate Michael Westbrooks added five assists to go along with four points.

Colby shot 53 percent (17-for-32) in the second half, but Davidson got hot as well with a 60 percent (24-for-40) showing. The Wildcats had a 55-33 margin on the boards.

Colby plays at University of New England this Monday at 7:30 p.m.
