Men's basketball tops Endicott, now 7-0

WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College men's basketball team tuned up for Saturday's big home game against rival Bowdoin College by improving to 7-0 overall as the Mules took a 72-61 win over Endicott College on Thursday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Colby plays at 7 p.m. Saturday against Bowdoin in an attempt to stay unbeaten heading into the holiday break. Endicott falls to 3-5 on the season.

Gil Haylon (Wellesley, Mass.) and Justin Sherman (Piedmont, Calif.) both had 18 points to lead Colby, which had 18 assists on its 28 made field goals. Haylon came off the bench quickly when Endicott decided to play a zone for much of the game and he nailed four of his nine 3-point shots and contributed five assists. Sherman added three assists and four steals to go along with 6-for-11 shooting.

Adam Choice (Newport, R.I.) missed some time in the second half due to foul problems, but still managed 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists for the Mules. Michael Russell (Wellesley, Mass.) added a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, Chas Woodward (Vero Beach, Fla.) had seven points and eight boards, and point guard Christian Van Loenen (Falmouth, Maine) had six assists and five rebounds.

Kevin McGuire (New City, N.Y.) led the Gulls with 12 points, while Bobby Montrond (Brockton, Mass.) had eight points and four assists. Danquah Rawlins (Mattapan, Mass.) also had eight points for Endicott.

Choice and Russell both had 10 points in the first half as the Mules took a 36-26 lead at intermission. With the score 48-38 in the second half, the Mules went on an 8-2 run to make it 56-42. Colby led 72-55 with 1:52 remaining before the Gulls scored the final six points of the game.
