Choice leads men's basketball to title win

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Adam Choice (Newport, R.I.) moved into 15th place on Colby College's all-time scoring list and earned Colby Men's Basketball Invitational tournament MVP honors for the second straight year in helping the Mules to a 77-59 win over Emmanuel College in the title game Sunday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Colby is 6-0 overall and 5-0 at Wadsworth Gymnasium this season, while Emmanuel falls to 1-4 overall.

Choice, Colby's two-time All-NESCAC selection, had 29 points and eight rebounds. He shot 7-for-10 from the field, 15-for-16 from the foul line, had three assists, and three blocked shots. Choice now has 1,189 points and 528 rebounds in his career to move past Patrick McGowan (1,172 from 2002-05) and Tom Dorion (1,167 from 1987-91) for 15th all-time in career scoring.

Mike Russell (Wellesley, Mass.), who earned all-tournament team honors, had a double-double in scoring and rebounding with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Justin Sherman (Piedmont, Calif.) added 13 points for the Mules and all-tournament team selection Chas Woodward (Vero Beach, Fla.) finished with 10 points a day after recording a double-double against University of Maine at Augusta.

Colby only trailed one time (3-2) in the game and opened up a 10-3 lead after a basket by Choice with 16:11 to play. Emmanuel got as close as four points twice in the first half, but Colby continually pulled away and led 33-23 at the break.

The Mules used a 12-4 run at the start of the second half to take control for good at 45-27 with 14:11 to play. Colby pushed the lead into the 20's before Emmanuel cut the margin to 69-54 with 2:03 to play.

Mike Jackson (New York, N.Y.), an all-tournament team selection from Emmanuel, had 20 points and four assists to pace the Saints. Isaiah Duke (Albany, N.Y.) finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Tony Carter-Hill (Baltimore, Md.) had 10 points.
