MEDFORD, Mass. --- The Colby College men's basketball team earned the fifth seed in the upcoming New England Small College Athletic Conference playoffs after posting an 89-84 win over Tufts University on Saturday.

The Mules will play at fourth-seeded Middlebury College next Saturday at 3 p.m. in a NESCAC quarterfinal. Colby, Middlebury and Tufts tied for fourth place in the conference with 5-4 records, but Middlebury earned the fourth seed based on wins over the Mules and the Jumbos during the regular season. Colby got the fifth seed because of Saturday's head-to-head win over Tufts.

Drew Cohen finished off a huge weekend for the Mules (14-10) with 25 points, 11 rebounds, eight blocked shots, seven assists and no turnovers. Cohen has 79 blocked shots this season and is up to 282 for his career.

The Mules led 44-36 at halftime, but Tufts (14-9) stormed back and took a 75-66 lead with 7:41 left in the game. The Jumbos still led 82-77 with only 2:26 left only to see Colby outscore them by a 12-2 margin the rest of the way.

Cohen made a layup with 2:03 remaining and Nick Farrell added another layup with 1:18 left to cut the lead to 82-81. Tufts answered with a score by Jake Weitzen with 55 seconds left, but Cohen scored again to make it 84-83 with 38 seconds remaining.

After a Tufts turnover, Adam Choice hit two free throws to give Colby the lead for good at 85-84. Cohen blocked a shot with 12 seconds left and Mac Simpson added two more free throws for the Mules for an 87-84 margin. Simpson also connected on two more free throws with one second left after Tufts missed on a 3-point shot and then turned the ball over after an offensive rebound.

Choice shot 8-for-11 from the field and had 20 points and seven rebounds. Simpson had 12 points, Farrell finished with 11 points and four assists, and Artie Cutrone had 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting.
