NEW LONDON, Conn. --- Senior forward Mike Russell became just the fifth player in Colby College men's basketball history to score more than 1,300 career points and pull down more than 900 rebounds after the Mules ended the season with a 59-53 victory over Connecticut College on Saturday.

Colby ends the year at 11-13 overall and 2-7 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Conn College fell to 12-12 overall and 3-6 in the league while still earning a conference playoff spot.

Russell ended a stellar career at Colby with 1,301 points to rank 13th all-time and his 931 rebounds put him sixth among rebounders for the Mules. Colby greats Brad Moore (1,935 points, 1,392 rebounds), Paul Harvey (2,075, 1,226), Harland Storey (1,710, 946), and David Stephens (1,571, 911) join Russell on the list of top scorers and rebounders. Russell finished this season with a 16.0 scoring average and he pulled down 12.6 rebounds per game.

Russell had his 16th double-double game of the season with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds before fouling out in the last minute of the contest. He also had team-highs of three steals and two blocked shots.

Ben Foreman and Christian Van Loenen both had 12 points and the pair combined for eight assists. Foreman nailed three of his five 3-point attempts, while Van Loenen pulled down nine rebounds and had five assists. Van Loenen, a co-captain with Russell, finished his Colby career with 620 points and 221 assists. The Mules also received nine points and seven boards from Eric Beaulieu and six points from senior Noah Atlas.

With no playoff bid on the line, Colby started all five of its seniors as the Mules battled to a 28-28 halftime tie. Atlas nailed a big 3-point shot with 7:20 remaining to give Colby the lead for good at 38-36. The game stayed close the rest of the way, but the Camels could not take back the lead or tie the game in the final seven minutes. With Colby up 49-48, Van Loenen nailed a 3-point shot with 2:07 remaining. Russell later added a tip-in with 1:13 to play for a 54-50 margin and Van Loenen hit two free throws to put the Mules up 56-50 and get some breathing room.

Matt Vadas led the Camels with 17 points and teammate Brian Mahoney scored 13. The Mules had a 43-38 rebounding margin and held Conn College to just 28 percent (16-for-57) field goal shooting.
