AMHERST, Mass. --- Adam Choice kept the Colby College men's basketball team close to top-ranked Amherst College for the second time this season, but the Lord Jeffs pulled away in the final 15 minutes for an 86-69 win in a New England Small College Athletic Conference quarterfinal game Saturday.

Amherst improved to 23-2 and will host the NESCAC Final Four next weekend, while eighth-seeded Colby ends the season at 13-12. The Mules fell only 72-66 at Amherst during the regular season.

Choice had 22 points, including a 10-for-14 effort from the foul line, to lead the Mules. Michael Russell added 11 points and Artie Cutrone finished with 10 for Colby. Mark Gaudet and Justin Sherman both had nine points for the Mules. Gaudet finished his career with 810 career points and 159 made 3-point shots.

Fletcher Walters paced Amherst with 23 points.

The Mules trailed just 41-33 at halftime against the top team in Division III and pulled within 47-43 on two free throws by Choice with 15:50 remaining. The Lord Jeffs, though, went on a 13-2 run from that point over the next four minutes to pull away for good.
