MIDDLEBURY, Vt. --- The 25th-ranked Colby College men's basketball team received some good news after falling 72-57 to eighth-ranked Middlebury College on Saturday in New England Small College Athletic Conference play.

The Mules (16-4 overall, 5-2 NESCAC), despite losing to Williams College and Middlebury this weekend, secured a home playoff game and will host a NESCAC quarterfinal at 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 20. The Colby women's basketball team also will play at home in a quarterfinal game at 2 p.m. as part of a big basketball doubleheader.

The Colby men still have two more league games next weekend against Connecticut College and Wesleyan University. Those games will decide where the Mules will be seeded among the top four and who their opponent will be in the quarterfinal game.

Middlebury (19-2, 6-1) received 14 points from Ryan Wholey, including a 3-for-5 effort from 3-point range.

Adam Choice led the Mules with a game-high 18 points and six rebounds, while Mike Russell had 16 points and seven boards. Russell was 8-for-8 from the foul line. Justin Sherman had 12 points and Chas Woodward had 10 rebounds.

Colby led 12-6 about nine minutes into the first half, but the Panthers went on a 31-6 run to end the half to take a 37-18 lead at intermission. The Mules scored the first six points of the second half only to see Middlebury take control again and push the lead back up around 20 points.
