UMB holds off Colby men's basketball, 69-65

KISSIMMEE, Fla. --- University of Massachusetts at Boston scored the final four points of the game to pull away for a 69-65 win over the Colby College men's basketball team in non-conference play at the ECAC Holiday Classic at the Kissimmee Civic Center on Sunday.

The Mules (5-6 overall) trailed by four points, but used a basket by Ben Foreman with 2:59 to play and two free throws from Christian Van Loenen with 1:40 left to tie the game at 65-65. UMB (6-4) received an inside basket from Jason White with 33 seconds remaining for the game-winning points and Mike Mitchell added two free throws with 10 seconds to play for the final points of the game. Colby missed a 3-point shot and then two free throws before Mitchell's game-clinching free throws.

Colby hurt its own cause with 43 percent shooting (13-for-30) from the foul line. Both teams shot a solid 51 percent from the field.

Mike Russell led Colby with game-highs of 24 points on 11-for-16 shooting and 12 rebounds. He also contributed two blocked shots and two steals in 38 minutes of play. Kyle Donovan had 11 points and a team-high five assists, while Ben Foreman and Uzoma Orchingwa each had eight points.

Pat Joseph paced UMB with 21 points on 9-for-13 shooting.

The Mules will play at Husson University on Thursday at 7 p.m.
