WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College senior attacker Whit McCarthy (Darien/Darien, Conn.), who had a collegiate-high six goals against the sixth-ranked team in the country, was honored as the Co-New England Small College Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week on Monday.
McCarthy had nine goals and one assist in a 2-0 week for the Mules. Playing in his final regular season home game on senior day, McCarthy had three goals in each half as the Mules pulled out a 12-9 win over previously unbeaten and then sixth-ranked Connecticut College on Saturday at Bill Alfond Field. He scored the tying goal to make it 8-8 and then had two of Colby's final four goals as the Mules had arguably their biggest victory in eight years.
McCarthy started the week with three goals and one assist in limited time in an easy 19-3 home win over Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday night. He had his nine goals for the week on 17 shots.
McCarthy leads Colby in scoring this year with 27 goals and eight assists for 35 points. He moved his career numbers at Colby to 112 goals and 31 assists for 143 points.
In the latest NESCAC statistics, McCarthy is sixth in goals per game (1.93) and seventh in points per game (2.50).
