WATERVILLE, Maine -- Despite Colby College’s Arthur Fritch (South Boston, Mass.) reaching 100 career points, New England College scored the first three goals of the game and held on for a 3-2 victory in men’s hockey Saturday at Alfond Rink.
Fritch, an All-American defensemen, became the 16th player in the history of the Colby men’s hockey program to reach 100 career points. He scored both of Colby’s goals to put his career totals at 27 goals and 73 assists for 100 points. Colby teammates Josh Reber (Edina, Minn.) and T.J. Kelley (Ridgefield, Conn.) both reached 100 points earlier this season.
Trevor Turner (Westbank, British Columbia) had three assists for New England College (8-2-1).
The Pilgrims came out strong and took a 2-0 lead after one period. Bjorn Terasniska (Huddinge, Sweden) tallied at 6:08 and Mark Ehl (N. Vancouver, British Columbia) made it 2-0 at 14:55. Ehl got the eventual game-winning goal at 8:39 of the second period off Turner’s third assist of the game.
Fritch scored both of his goals on the power play. Reber and Kelley assisted on the first at 14:33 of the second period to make it 3-1 after 40 minutes. He then made it a one-goal game at 7:40 of the third off passes from Reber and Joe Rothwell (Unionville, Ontario).
Ron Baia (West Haven, Conn.) stopped 20 shots for NEC, while Cody McKinney made 18 saves for the Mules (6-5, 5-2 NESCAC).
