WATERVILLE, Maine --- Southern Maine led 3-1 after two periods and then scored three goals in the first 5:44 of the final period to pull away for a 7-2 win against Colby College in men's hockey Saturday at Alfond Rink.
Pat Noonan (Burlington, Mass.) had two goals and two assists for USM. Colby’s Eric Simmons (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) and the Huskies’ Jordan Skinner (London, Ontario) traded goals in the opening period.
Noonan and Kyle Smith (Auburn, Maine) scored two goals in the final 5:20 of the second period for a 3-1 USM lead. Chris Sparkes (St. John’s, Newfoundland), Smith and Mark Carragher (Charlottetown, PEI) had the goals to start the third period for the Huskies.
After a Colby goal by Matt Strickland (Leduc, Alberta) at 6:46, Noonan closed out the scoring with his second goal at 7:35. David Beckles (Stamford, Conn.) stopped 30 shots for USM in about 50 minutes of work in goal.
