WATERVILLE, Maine ­-- Mike Stevens (Dover, N.H.) scored on the power play with 3:23 left in the game to lift the unbeaten University of Southern Maine men’s hockey team to a 4-3 win over Colby College in non-conference play Friday night at Alfond Rink.

Colby (4-4), which leads the New England Small College Athletic Conference with a 4-1 record, tied the game at 3-3 in the third period on a power play goal by Billy Crinnion (Smithtown, N.Y.) at 7:34.

The Mules took their only lead at 1-0 when T.J. Kelley (Ridgefield, Conn.) tallied for his ninth goal of the season. Kelley is just one point away from 100 for his career with totals of 46 goals and 53 assists.

The Huskies (9-0-1) scored the next three goals and all had assists from first-year forward Jon Rutt (Scarborough, Maine).

USM went ahead 2-1 after one period on goals by Zach Joy (Dover, N.H.) at 9:13 and Pat Noonan (Burlington, Mass.) on the power play at 12:30.

The Huskies took a 3-1 lead when Mike Hubbard (Reading, Mass.) scored at 7:56 of the second period, but the Mules cut the lead to one after two periods when Josh Reber (Edina, Minn.) scored at 14:11 on the power play.

Southern Maine goalies Ryan Sullivan (Newton, Mass.) and Jamie Gilbert (Lewiston, Maine) split time in the nets and combined for 28 saves. Cody McKinney (Weston, Fla.) stopped 22 shots for the Mules.
