WATERVILLE, Maine Colby College senior forward Josh Reber (Edina, Minn.) became the 14th player in school history to reach 100 career points as the Mules took a 5-2 victory over Skidmore College in men’s hockey on Friday night at Alfond Rink.
Reber has had most of his points passing the puck, but he got his 100th point on a goal at 7:29 of the first period to give Colby (2-2) a 2-0 lead. The Mules had taken a 1-0 lead at 4:17 when Mike Butler (Saint John, New Brunswick) scored short-handed off a pass from captain Ryan Chrenek (Grande Prairie, Alberta). Reber’s goal came off passes from T.J. Kelley (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Billy Crinnion (Smithtown, N.Y.).
Kelley, who finished with a pair of assists to reach 50 for his career, made it 3-0 after one period when he scored at 14:09 from Crinnion and Reber. Kelley is at 40 goals and 50 assists for 90 points.
Phil McDavitt (Duxbury, Mass.) got Skidmore (1-2-2) back in the game with the only two goals of the second period. He tallied at 4:04 off assists from Tim Daley (Wilton, N.Y.) and Mike Gibbons (Braintree, Mass.) and made it 3-2 on the power play from Daley and Matt Czerkowicz (Blackstone, Mass.) at 14:49.
Reber got his second goal of the game at 9:20 of the third period to give Colby some breathing room. Kelley and Michael Belliveau (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) got the assists. Reber has 26 goals and 76 assists for 102 career points.
Butler also got two goals in the game when he scored at 14:41 from Eric Simmons (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) and Wil Hartigan (Arlington, Mass.).
First-year goalie Cody McKinney (Weston, Fla.) made 28 saves in goal for Colby.
