WATERVILLE, Maine --- Michael Belliveau (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) and T.J. Kelley (Ridgefield, Conn.) both had two goals and two assists as the Colby College men's hockey team made it a 2-0 weekend with a 6-3 victory over Castleton State on Saturday at Alfond Rink.
The Mules, who took a 5-2 win over Skidmore on Friday night, are 3-2 overall. Castleton falls to 1-4-1.
Belliveau, a sophomore forward, had the best game of his collegiate career. After a scoreless first period, he scored the first two goals of the game at 3:37 and 5:45 of the second period. The second goal was the first of two Colby goals on the power play. Wil Hartigan (Arlington, Mass.) and Matt Ahern (Melrose, Mass.) had assists on the first goal and Kelley and Josh Reber (Edina, Minn.) were in on the second goal.
Steve Culbertson (Bowling Green, Ohio) made it 2-1 when he scored at the 10-minute mark for the Spartans.
The Mules, though, went ahead 4-1 after two periods on a power play goal by Kelley from Reber and Belliveau and the first collegiate goal for first-year forward Billy Crinnion (Smithtown, N.Y.) on assists from Bellieveau and Kelley.
The teams traded four goals in the third period. Brandon Heck (Forrestburg, Alberta) scored 3:59 into the period to make it 4-2, but the Mules bounced back when Kelley got his second goal at 5:47 off passes from Crinnion and Mike White (Miller Place, N.Y.).
Matthew Link (Clifton Park, N.Y.) cut the lead to two again with a goal at 11:28 for the Spartans. However, Colby held off the charge and got an empty net goal from Mike Butler (Saint John, New Brunswick) in the final minute.
Cody McKinney (Weston, Fla.) stopped 16 shots for Colby and improved to 3-0 this season.
