GORHAM, Maine --- Cody McKinney made 31 saves and Bobby Sullivan had one goal and two assists in the third period to help the Colby College men's hockey team post an important 5-3 victory over University of Southern Maine on Friday night.
Colby improved to 10-6 overall and 9-3 in league play, while USM fell to 11-4-3. The Huskies had a 34-17 advantage in shots, but McKinney made 15 saves in the second period and 10 more in the third. USM took a 3-2 lead into the final period, but the Mules scored two goals in a span of 22 seconds to go ahead for good. Wil Hartigan tallied at 1:08 of the third period off an assist from Sullivan. Matt Strickland then got the game-winning goal at 1:30 off passes from Sullivan and Greg Valenski. Sullivan closed out the scoring at 16:12 off assists by Hartigan and Valenski. USM led 2-1 after the first period as Arthur Fritch got Colby's lone goal on a pass from T.J. Kelley on the power play. Kelley got the other goal for the Mules at 9:45 of the second period from Billy Crinnion and Josh Reber.
