SALEM, Mass. --- Colby College first-year goalie Cody McKinney turned aside 36 shots as the Mules settled for a 1-1 tie with Salem State on Saturday.
Colby moved to 10-6-1 overall and 9-3-1 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. The Mules are in sole possession of second place in the league after Bowdoin College lost to University of Southern Maine. Colby also picked up ground on league leader Middlebury College (9-2-2), which lost to Trinity College.
McKinney finished with 67 saves and allowed four goals in the two games this weekend. He had 31 stops in Colby's 5-3 victory over Southern Maine on Friday night. McKinney made 16 saves in the third period in the game with Salem State.
Colby's Greg Valenski got the lone goal for his team off an assist from Wil Hartigan at 16:15 of the second period.
Salem State (11-7-1) tied it with just 4:33 to play in regulation when Alex Molnar scored.
