COLCHESTER, Vt. ---The Colby College men’s hockey team ended the season on a winning note with five goals in the final two periods in a 6-1 victory over Saint Michael’s College on Saturday.
Dan Nelson had one goal and two assists for the Mules (6-15-3), who had three goals in the second period to take a 4-1 lead into the final 20 minutes. Nelson started the scoring with the lone goal of the first period with just 41 seconds to play off an assist from Jeoff Jarnot. Nelson finished his first season at Colby with six goals.
Colby made it 3-0 just 6:07 into the second period. Wil Hartigan picked up his fifth goal of the year on the power play off passes from Michael Doherty and Nelson at 4:51. Doherty, a first-year forward, ended the season as Colby’s top scorer with 10 goals and seven assists for 17 points. Matt Ahern, playing in his final game at Colby, tallied at 6:07 from Eric Simmons and Tom Scott.
The Purple Knights cut the lead to 3-1 at 8:34 of the second period on a goal by Ryan Mero, but Colby’s Matt Rappaport got his fourth goal of the year 14:59 to put the Mules back up by three goals. Chris Talbert, another senior playing in his final game, and Mike White had assists.
Billy Crinnion scored for the sixth time this season at 6:56 of the third period from Nelson and Jarnot on the power play. The Mules then got an unassisted power play goal from Bobby Sullivan to close out the scoring at 13:13. Colby was 3-for-10 on the power play.
Dean Feole stopped 23 shots in net for Colby in his final game.
