NEW LONDON, Conn.--- Despite 14 groundballs and 17 won face-offs from Craig Bunker, the Colby College men’s lacrosse team fell 14-8 at Connecticut College on Saturday in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game.
The Mules fall to 6-5 overall and 2-4 in the league, while Conn College is 5-7 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
Colby College senior Todd Boertzel contributed two goals and an assist, while Bunker was 17-for-26 in face-offs. Whit McCarthy and Caddy Brooks also had two goals for the Mules, while Stew Brown and Chris Healy both had one goal.
Alex Farmer stopped nine shots in goal for Colby, which only trailed 4-3 after one quarter. However, the Camels had a 6-1 scoring margin in the second quarter to pull away.
The Mules pushed the Camels in the early stages of the third quarter. Boertzel connected with Healy for a goal at 12:45 and Brooks put in an unassisted tally with 11:25 remaining to make it a 10-6 game. The Camels, though, scored the next four goals to pull away again.
