WATERVILLE, Maine --- Bowdoin College scored seven goals in the middle two periods on the way to a 10-8 victory over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse Monday night at Bill Alfond Field.
Colby (2-9, 1-7 NESCAC) took a 3-2 lead after the opening quarter, but Bowdoin (6-6, 3-4) scored four unanswered goals in the second quarter for a 6-3 lead at the break. The Mules got as close as 7-5 in the third quarter, but the Polar Bears scored two goals in the final 1:17 of the period to go up 9-5 heading into the final quarter.
Bowdoin got the opening goal of the fourth quarter before the Mules tightened things up a bit with three goals in the final 3:21 of play.
Adam Tracy (Providence, R.I.) and Thadd Welch (Great Barrington, Mass.) both had two goals and one assist for Bowdoin. Matt Chadwick (Needham, Mass.) added two assists.
Whit McCarthy (Darien, Conn.) led all scorers with four goals for Colby. Drew Piekarski (East Sandwich, Mass.) had one goal and one assist.
Charles Legg (Baltimore, Md.) made 13 stops in net for Bowdoin, while Alex Farmer (Madison, Conn.) made 10 saves for the Mules.
