WATERVILLE, Maine --- Craig Bunker (Topsfield, Mass.) and Whit McCarthy (Darien, Conn.) --- two key players in getting the Colby College men’s lacrosse team back to the New England Small College Athletic Conference playoffs --- were named to the all-conference team on Wednesday.
Bunker, the top face-off man in the league, made the NESCAC first team as a sophomore. McCarthy, a junior attacker, made the all-conference team for the first time as a second team selection.
Bunker is first in the NESCAC in groundballs (131), groundballs per game (8.73), face-off percentage (.645, 185-102), and is third in total face-off wins (185). Bunker ranks fifth in the NCAA in groundballs per game and 15th in face-off win percentage. He also contributed four goals and five assists this season. Bunker has 272 won face-offs and 168 groundballs in two years at Colby.
McCarthy was sixth in the conference in points per game (3.47) with his 41 goals and 11 assists for 52 points. He also ranked fourth in goals per game (2.73), was tied for first in man-up goals (7), and was fourth in man-up percentage (0.47). McCarthy heads into his senior year next season with 85 goals and 23 assists for 108 points.
Colby finished the season at 8-7 overall and made the NESCAC playoffs for the first time since 2002.
